Lack of media

In the news you here multiple stories of events that happen around you. Of course they're important but why is it that it takes a documentary way in the back of a shelf to get information on my own people. It isn't just my people alone, Puertoricans to be exact, but Latinos and Latinas around the world. Being a fellow Latina, this effects me very much, yeah we hear things on Mexicans, but it's mostly on how they're immigrants or what not. Recently a certain person I know, whose name I will not be told, you know who you are, said that their is "to many of us." Heck yes there is! It's not always are food, our bamboo earrings, our fast talking, it's everything that comes with it. If I say that i'm a taino indian most people won't know what i'm talking about. fifty percent, half of puerto rico is poor, really? Women were used as guinea pigs for birth control and some even dieing, since when? If someone said they were a Taino Indian, most people won't know what the heck that is.Here are a few videos that explain
Yo soy boricua paque tu lo sepas! This video explains the things that people went through in Puerto Rico. It's not just a paradise and a vacation spot. Theres alot of history that alot of people don't hear about.
Q'orianka Kilcher in Peru. O'orianka is an actress hit the screen with her movie the new world, its an awesome movie! She was born in Germany but her descent is from Peru. This video shows the oil companies and the infected water that the native people have to live in. The diseases on the children are heart breaking.

Poverty in the Dominican Republic. In the Dominican Republic these kids have to live through it everyday and the poem in the back alone just explains everything.

Taino heritage. Tainos are hispanic indians that the spaniards killed and even raped the women. The tainos were good people, very friendly. Also heres a link http://lexicon.typepad.com/triviums/2008/03/catholics-old-t.html

Tree of life

Some people come into your life for a lifetime and some come for a season. You have to know which is which. I put everybody that comes into my life in the category of a tree. Some people are leaves on a tree. The wind blows, they go to the left. The wind blows from the other way, they go to the right. They are just unstable. You can't count on them for nothing. All they ever do is take from that tree. What you need to understand about a leaf is that it has a season. It'll wither and die and blow away. There ain't no need to be praying over a leaf to be resurrected. When it's dead it's gone. Let it go! Some people are like that. All the leaf ever does is cool you off every now and then. If you're grown, you know what I'm talking about, because you can call them in the middle of the night and get cooled off. That's the leaf people. They come to take. Then there are people like a branch. You got to be careful with branch people. They come in all different shapes and sizes. You never know how strong they will be in your life. So my advice is to tip out on it slowly. When you're going out on a limb, don't put too much weight on it at once, because it can fall and leave you high and dry. Sometimes, you have to wait for a branch to grow up before it can hold all of the things you want to share with it. Finally, there are people who are like roots at the bottom of the tree. If you find yourself two or three people in your entire lifetime that are like the roots, then you are blessed. The roots don't care nothing about being seen. All they're there to do is hold that tree up, to make sure it stays in the air. It comes from the earth to give that tree everything it needs. That's what relationships should be about. That's what you need, people who want to be in your life for the right reasons. If somebody wants to walk out of your life, you've got to LET THEM GO! When you learn to love yourself, you will end up giving standards to everyone around you. Again, I repeat with emphasis, if they don't meet those standards, you have to let them go, because they might be a leaf. And forgive them with all your might

Sunset

You ran away, you ran away with nothing to say, nothing to explain, nothing but hate.
You look at yourself in that mirror, that same mirror that has said to you, “you’re ugly, your fat, and your nothing.” So because of that mirror you ran away.
Find yourself before the sun goes down and the stars rise up, find yourself before that rose sunset turns into a deep black, or it’s to late.
The media tells you a size zero is beautiful, and you believe, ribs’ sticking out of you is perfect, and you believe, starving yourself to death will make you somebody, and you believe, punishing yourself for eating something you weren’t suppose to is right, and you still believe.
You had your chance little girl, now your caught up in a society’s world. The rose is falling down and the ebony appears. You did it little girl, you have literally starved yourself to death, is society beautiful now?
The rose is gone and you are too, the vogue magazine has controlled you, your father found you, your mother cries, were trying to be perfect worth a try? Good job little girl, you are now in a magazine, not because of modeling but because of your tragic story.
Your room is still and silent, and the mirror is still hung on the wall.
It laughs to itself knowing it conquered you to fall.
Your actions have now influenced your little sister and she stands in front of that mirror.
I’m so proud of you, because of you her end is coming near, here comes that ebony and there goes that rose, the mirror says to itself two down, and millions to go.

Come spirit

Help us sing the story of our land

You are our mother
We, your field of corn
We rise

From out of the soul of you
Hands up to the sky
Praise you
Your sun shines on me
Your rain cries

Come spirit sing the chorus to our people
